“House of Life” is our name for the exciting Heritage Centre and visitor experience that has transformed Willesden Jewish Cemetery into a great place to visit. Here you can find out what’s on offer and meet the team.
When Victorian Jews said “House of Life”, they meant a cemetery, a resting place after death.
We have turned the phrase round to emphasise life, as we welcome more people from all backgrounds to remember and connect with a unique part of London’s heritage through a new cultural programme.
Our visitor experience starts in the former Superintendent’s Lodge and continues outdoors and in the funerary buildings.

Since 2015 the project team has worked to conserve the funerary buildings, plant new garden areas and boost bio-diversity in the grounds. It has created a new Heritage Centre, developed new volunteering and learning programmes and presented exhibitions, open days, talks, and special events.

Arturo, known as “Arthur”, has been foreman at the cemetery for some 15 years.
Arturo Mejuto has also successfully completed the City and Guilds Stonemasonry Heritage Course.
