Seeking Refuge - Jewish Architects and the RIBA Refugee Committee

What do refugee architects, modernist design and Willesden Jewish Cemetery have in common?

Quite a lot, it turns out, as we found out at the special event on Sunday, 7th June 2026.

A huge thank you to Valeria Carullo from RIBA for a fascinating afternoon exploring the stories of architects who sought refuge in Britain before and during the Second World War.

One of the joys of events like this is that they help us uncover new connections. Research from the RIBA Refugee Committee Project has already revealed previously unknown links to people buried here at Willesden, helping us tell even more of the remarkable story of London's Jewish community.

Part of Jewish Culture Month

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the talk and guided walk.

You never quite know what stories you'll discover in a cemetery
